I know that if someone reads this post, I’ll probably get a lot of backlash, and that’s ok. I have my opinion and you have yours. I have seen several people on facebook, and other places online, putting down people who even consider shopping on Thanksgiving Day. For some reason,November is always the month where people tell others when they should listen to Christmas music, when they should put their Christmas tree up and when to shop. I think it’s rather annoying how they will judge someone based on whether or not they go shopping on that day. I haven’t made up my mind if I’m going or not, but if I do, that’s my business. Burger King has been open on Thanksgiving Day for as long as I can remember. I have never seen anyone express outrage over that. And also, there are people in the service industry (fire dept, hospitals..etc) who always have to work holidays. Convenience stores have also always been open on Thanksgiving.
Most people are complaining that people who work in retail make minimum wage. Well, I can tell you from experience, Wal-mart pays above minimum wage. At least here they do. Working in retail stinks, I agree. It’s why I don’t work there anymore. However, it’s up to you to get a job where you don’t have to work weekends or holidays. My husband works a factory job. It’s not the most glamorous job in the world, but the pay is pretty good, he doesn’t work many weekends and he has the holidays off. Still, I know some people would turn their nose up at that job. But hey, if you do, and work in retail, don’t complain about having to work on the holidays.
I can assure you, when I do go shopping this time of year, I am not obnoxious. I don’t fight over things Most of the time, I go for the things that are not big ticket items. And I’m always nice to the ones who are having to work in that craziness.
So, I guess my point is, if you don’t want to go shopping tomorrow, or Friday, then don’t. But don’t sit back and judge those who do. It doesn’t make you any better. *steps off soapbox
